Hump day?

We used to call this hump day.  Wednesday was the midpoint in the traditional work week.

Traditional work week, what’s that?  Touché.   Point taken.

These days, Wednesday is a day between Man Crush Monday and Throwback Thursday or MCM and TBT if you must.

It is also the day the Lord has made so we are glad and we rejoice in it.  For those of us on a mission from God—actually, commissioned by Jesus would be more precise—we are also on the lookout for people who have never truly heard the gospel for the first time.

We are tuned in to those who have heard and may have even accepted Jesus as their Savior but who just have not connected with a family of faith.  Inertia is a fact of life and it is tough to get a body at rest in motion, but we keep on keepin’ on in our efforts to lead people back into the Body of Christ.

Why?

We are on a MISSION FROM GOD!

Spread the gospel!

Connect the disconnected.

Love everyone in the family of faith like it was going out of style.

Hump day, not so much.

A day to proclaim the good news, connect the disconnected, and to love one another as much as Jesus loves us; you betcha, that is the day where we find ourselves.

Now, what are we going to do about it?

GOOD NEWS 2012

The Burns Flat Cumberland Presbyterian Church has committed to reaching every school-aged child in our community by the end of 2012. 

This is the boldest commitment the church has ever made.  Here is our plan.

We will add to, re-think, revise, and repeat some of what is in here, but one thing is certain.

We will hit the deck running in 2012 and we will be delivering GOOD NEWS!

Invading the online world with Good News!

Almost 3 month ago, I published a brief piece titled, Invading Facebook.  Without having to following the link, I stated that I would invade Facebook with the good news of Jesus Christ at least weekly.  Sometimes that would be a prayer, a sermonette, a link to a published commentary, or just words of encouragement. 

Today, I encourage all who write sermons, Sunday school lessons, prayers, or prose that praises God, to join in invading not just Facebook, but the entire online world.  If God has blessed you with the gift of writing and you use it for sermons or lessons, I encourage you to also place these messages on the many forums available.

If you don’t want to try to figure out your own blog or website, there are numerous sites that only ask you to provide your content.  Some pay a little and others not so much, but they are a venue to take the message of hope into a very confused world.  I frequently use Examiner  as they are aggressively trying to promote themselves as a content rich source.

  How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Romans 10:14-15

Could not your hands on the keyboard be just as beautiful?  You are already writing and sharing the good news with your congregations and study groups.  Why not take your message to a broader audience?
